Music education advocate to lecture at IPFW PDF Print E-mail

The Executive Director of the National Association for Music Education (MENC), Dr. John Mahlmann, will make a presentation, which is free and open to the public, on Monday, March 1 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Rhinehart Recital Hall on the IPFW campus.
 
Dr. Mahlmann’s talk will address challenges to music education in the twenty-first century and will include time for audience questions. Dr. Mahlmann is known as an eloquent spokesman for the arts and is a national leader in advocating for music education for every child. The presentation will be of particular interest to music and art educators, school administrators, and college music students. Dr. John Mahlmann has been MENC’s Executive Director since 1983, after first serving as administrator of the National Association of Art Educators for 12 years.  Under his direction membership in MENC has grown to over 130,000, making it the world’s largest professional organization for music educators. He was responsible for creating and enacting the highly successful “National Anthem Project,” whose goal was to re-teach the anthem to Americans while making them aware of their common musical heritage. He also serves as chair or board member of numerous national music and art organizations, including the National Music Council and the National Coalition for Education in the Arts.
