Art Exhibits & Receptions: March 2 – April 29

BT Manning, Photography--BT seeks to capture the tranquility in everyday life with an eye toward the whimsical.
Meet the Artists: Sunday, March 7, 1 – 3 pm
$1 Night: March 4. On the first Thursday of the month we offer $1 admissions, 5-8 pm. Visit during those hours and pay only $1 per person, adult or child. (Babies and up to age 2 still admitted free.) Our gift shop is open until 8 pm, as well.
Eggs-periment Eggs-travaganza: March 6 & 20, 11 am & 2 pm; March 18, 6 pm.
They’re incredible! They’re edible! They’re eggs! From the amazing structural properties of their shells to the finest details of their internal anatomy they can be used to demonstrate a wide variety of scientific principles. Plus, if we make a mistake, we’ll have a mess – what fun! The program lasts about 45 minutes and is appropriate for ages 5 through adult. Part of our Science Fun series; no reservations needed. Regular Conservatory admission fees apply.
M’ARCHitecture Contest: March 8 – April 4. As a wrap-up to the “Downtown Landmarks” exhibit, get out into the thaw and identify our city landmark buildings by the photographic close-ups provided on any of four game pieces. Submit your answers to the Conservatory via their website or on paper to the Conservatory. A winner will be drawn at random from each week’s correct entries to win a family or individual-plus guest Conservatory membership. See how well you know downtown’s landmarks and maybe win a year of free garden visits! For a game piece, visit the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory at 1100 S. Calhoun Street or their website at www.botanicalconservatory.org. All entries are due by midnight April 4. Winners will be announced April 6.
Science Thursdays: March 18. On the third Thursday of the month, drop-in to experience our informal, 45-minute science program at 6 pm – exploring the sorts of things that make science cool (and you can use to impress your friends and family!) This month’s theme is eggs. No reservations needed; regular Conservatory admission fees apply.
Easter Seals Arc “Eggstravaganza” Community Art Project: March 20-April 4
Visit the Conservatory to see the amazing works of art hatched for the Easter Seals Arc display and auction. Vote for “Most Eggsquisite,” “Best of Shell,” and “Cracks You Up.” Regular Conservatory admission fees apply.
Botanical Brown Bag : Bring a sandwich and stop in at the Conservatory for an entertaining “garden moment” on the last Thursday of each month. Coffee and tea are free.
How to Make a Rain Barrel: March 25, 12-1 pm. Would you like a free and abundant supply of soft water, with no chlorine, lime or calcium? Do you want to help the environment while saving almost 1,000 gallons of water this summer? Then you need a rain barrel! Some commercial rain barrels sell for over $100, but in this program Master Gardener and Master Naturalist Lyle McDermott will show you how to make your own for under $20. No reservations needed; regular Conservatory admission fees apply.
