This March, the Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) University Religious Forum will compare and contrast Islam and Christianity. Nick Johnson, area director with the InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, will present “From the Church to the Masjid: A Comparative Look at Islam and Christianity” Thursday, March 18, from noon to 1:15 p.m. in Walb Student Union, Rooms 114–116. The presentation is free and open to the public.

Johnson, who is also the founder of the Global Christian Fellowship at IPFW, will explore both the similarities and differences between two of the world’s greatest faiths and seek to build bridges of understanding to stimulate greater dialogue and clarity.

At first glance, comparing Islam and Christianity appears straightforward. Both are monotheistic, follow many of the same prophets, and embrace prayer as a means of communication with God. But in contrast, the Qur’an and Bible are at odds on the nature and mission of Jesus and Hadith is important to most Muslims but absent in Christianity. Also, exactly how one communicates with God and the role of women are different in the two faiths.
