The Indiana State Police released a list of reminders for drivers as area farmers prepare to harvest their crops in the coming months.
During this time, large farm equipment will be on the roads and may impede traffic, the ISP said in a news release. Motorists should be cautious when approaching a hillcrest or curve because farm implements may require additional roadway space. Be prepared to slow down, pull to the side of the road or even to stop.
The ISP released the following tips for farmers:
- Have all lighting, slow moving emblems and placards on equipment as required by law
- Ensure that load and/or equipment is properly secured and covered with a tarp in a manner to prevent the contents of your vehicle from dripping, sifting, leaking or otherwise escaping from the vehicle as is required by State and Federal statute
- When parking equipment along the roadway, make certain that it is visible at night and is visible to the greatest possible distance to approaching vehicles
- When three or more vehicles are behind the implement, safely pull to the side of the road to allow same direction traffic to travel past equipment
- Avoid traveling or parking on state and U.S. highways during rush hour traffic or at night
- Do not leave anhydrous nurse tanks unlocked or unattended
The ISP released the following tips for motorists:
- Be patient when driving behind farm equipment as they have the right to operate on the roadways the same as other motorists
- When approaching farm equipment from the opposite direction, pull to the right, slow down or stop if it is safe to do so and allow them pass, particularly on narrow roads
- Avoid becoming distracted while driving by using cell phones or other similar devices

FORT WAYNE – More than 400,000 people watched the Fort Wayne TinCaps this season at Parkview Field.
The TinCaps passed the 400,000 mark during Monday's regular-season finale at Parkview Field. It is the second straight season the TinCaps set a franchise attendance record.
Monday’s crowd of 5,121 set the season total at 404,942, passing the old record of 378,529 set last year in the inaugural season at Parkview Field. Fort Wayne also won the Midwest League title last year.
“This is just another example of our fans being some of the best in all of minor-league sports,” TinCaps president Mike Nutter said in a press release. “Our attendance this year was better than several Double-A teams and even a few Triple-A teams this year. We look forward to seeing more electric crowds during the playoffs.”
The TinCaps start a best-of-three playoff series against the Great Lakes Loons (Class-A Los Angeles Dodgers) Wednesday at Parkview Field at 7:05 p.m.
